EMC-Dell Merger… A Natural Advancement

The Integration of these Industry Leaders will Enhance Customer Value in Long Run, Says Andrew Calthorpe.

The integration of EMC into Dell does not come as a surprise to us. The two technology giants have worked closely together for more than eight years when Dell was an EMC reseller. With largely complementary product portfolios and strong business ties, it makes perfect sense that they combine their strengths in the second biggest deal in technology history to become a leader in the technology market.

As global leaders in servers, storage, virtualization, and PCs, the combined company is set to lead in a number of the fastest growing areas in the industry, including digital transformation, software-defined data centres, converged infrastructures, cloud storage, mobile technology, and security.

Of course, with the acquisition of EMC comes the rest of the EMC Federation, including Pivotal, RSA, VCE, VirtuStream and VMWare, each a multi-million to billion dollar standalone business. Their combined resources dwarf competitors, and will create the largest integrated technology firm in the world.

According to Joe Tucci, CEO of EMC, the success of the EMC Federation in the market is expected to continue to grow amid the acquisition, and strategic collaborations will be made between the Federation companies and Dell.

VMware, for instance, is expected to reach a USD 1 billion in revenue as a result of growth in areas including software-defined data centres, hybrid cloud, and end-user computing with the support of Dell.

For customers, as with any business acquisition of this size, the impact of the transition will only be noticeable after approximately a year, once the two companies are completely realigned, and new partnership programs are released. In the long-run, customers will undoubtedly benefit from the larger network of channel partners and advanced product portfolio resulting from the merger.

From Condo Protego’s perspective, it’s business as usual for now. The future looks bright for us as we have been a partner to both Dell and EMC for nearly a decade. We have maintained very good ties with Dell, having been a Tier one partner in the past, and we expect this integration will further strengthen our relationship.

We will continue to offer the best and most cost-efficient data storage and protection solutions for businesses of all sizes, packaged with our leading consultative approach, and local value-added support services. Our customer support services will continue to be unmatched in the region in terms of response time and quality, our technical support team will maintain the highest vendor qualifications in the region, and as always, our customers will be happier for choosing us.
